Cajon Classic Cruise
June 4 - June 25, 5:00 - 8:00 pm, Main Street, Downtown El Cajon
The 8th Annual Cajon Classic Cruise, Southern California's largest weekly
classic car show returns on June 4 on Main Street in Downtown El Cajon. This
season will run every Wednesday evening from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm through
September 24. Opening night will have hundreds of hot rods, classic cars,
and more, face painting and magic by Dazzling Diane the Magician, "The
Moondawgs" band will perform, inflatable jumper and slide courtesy of San
Diego Jump Company, and classic tunes played opening night and every night
by Dr. DJ and All Around Mobile Music. The month of June will also feature
exciting theme nights including "Too Cool" on June 11, with awesome rides,
magic by Alakazam, and chances to win free tickets to the San Diego County
Fair, "Cajon Speed Week" on June 18 will feature a variety of race vehicles
that make up our racing history, including an authentic 1914 sprint car, and
"Hall of Flames" on June 25 will feature cool rides with hot flames.

Kids Adopt A Beach Ocean Day
June 6, 9:30am - 12pm, Oceanside City Beach
Approximately 1,000 elementary school students from San Diego County will
hit the beach for the 15th Annual Ocean Day Kids' Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup. In
preparation for the event, the local organizer, I Love A Clean San Diego, is
leading school assembly programs to teach the students about the importance
of the ocean and how their actions affect it. After the cleanup, students
will "take a stand in the sand" and form a huge human design and a message
that "KIDS CARE" to make their voices heard about the need to protect the
world's oceans and the animals that live there.
Summer Kick-Off Gala
June 6, 6:30 pm, Old Firehouse in South Park, 30th & Juniper
The Old Firehouse, abandoned for decades, is currently being restored. This
will be the site of a gala celebration of the history and current renewal
occurring in Greater Golden Hill. The space will be decorated with oversized
gallery quality prints of historic photos current pictures. We will be
showcasing the food of our local restaurants with various stations featuring
four to six dishes each from restaurants including Vagabond, Alexander's,
the South Park Bar and Grill, Nick and Lola's and more. There will be wine,
beer, and champagne tasting stations and tea donated by Halcyon Tea.
Entertainment will include live music from periods spanning the history of
Greater Golden Hill, a silent auction and art auction, and there will be a
black and white photo booth available for unlimited photos. Sponsorships of
the event are available, priority will be given to local busi- nesses.
Tickets are $75 each.
Cancer Survivorship: San Diego
June 8, 11am-5pm, Bloch Cancer Survivors Park, 4100 N. Harbor Drive
On Sunday, June 8, from 11a.m. to 5p.m. thousands of San Diegans will
celebrate life and learn how to live it better by taking part in the free
annual Celebration of Life, hosted by Cancer Survivorship: San Diego! in
Bloch Cancer Survivors Park, 4100 N. Harbor Drive, across from Lindbergh
Airport in San Diego. From 11 a.m. to 5p.m. free information will be offered
on cancer treatment, prevention and support. The event includes a large
health fair, educational presentations, cancer screenings, survivors'
stories, and family activities. Cancer survivors will be honored for their
strength and courage, and the contributions of their families, friends, and
healthcare providers also will be recognized. Surviving cancer is an
attitude about life and living each day to the fullest. Cancer Survivorship:
San Diego! 2008 marks the 11th anniversary of this celebration of life.
Single in the City Soiree featuring the "Nothing BUTT the Best" Comedy
Show and Bachelor/ette Auction - Benefiting the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation
June 12, 7:00pm - 11:00pm, Aubergine – 500 Fourth Ave.
The Single in the City Soiree will feature a 45 minute long creative comedy
show that will marry humor with education and awareness of the Crohn's &
Colitis diseases. Networking and mingling will take place as Level 3 Records
spins tunes for all ages. The excitement will rise when 18 of San Diego's
most adventurous singles will take center stage to be auctioned off to raise
money for the Foundation. The hot singles will design creative date packages
and services that interested partygoers can bid on. 100% of the money raised
from the auction will benefit the charity.

South African Plants for a California Garden

Interested in learning more about plants? Quail Botanical Gardens is
offering certification classes in a variety of exciting botanical topics.
Upon attendance of all sessions offered in a class, students will receive a
Certificate of Accomplishment from Quail Botanical Gardens South African
Plants for a California Garden Thursdays, June 12, 19, and 26, 7 – 9 pm
Saturday, June 28, 9 am – 12 Noon South Africa offers a wide variety of
plants suitable for a "California Friendly" garden. During the evening
classes, Jason Kubrock will teach students how to identify and care for
these plants that demand little water but look extremely lush in the
landscape. On Saturday there will be an expert –led tour of the South
African plants at Quail Botanical Gardens. Cost: Members $80, non-members

8th Annual Taste of Adams Avenue

San Diego Restaurant Week

San Diego County's largest and most successful dining event, San Diego
Restaurant Week, is gearing up for its second 2008 appearance. In its fourth
year, San Diego Restaurant Week was launched with the intention of
spotlighting the city as a premier dining destination. Restaurant Week is
excited to have on its line up of participating restaurants and chefs some
of the country's hottest young and established chefs. Celebrity chefs
include Executive Chef Brian Malarkey of Oceanaire Seafood Room, Chef de
Cuisine Gavin Kaysen of El Bizcocho Restaurant and Bernard Guillas of Marine
Room.

La Jolla Festival of the Arts
June 28-29, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., UCSD East Campus parking lots, located at
Genesee Avenue and Regents Road
The 22nd Annual La Jolla Festival of the Arts hosts over 190 award-winning
local and national artists displaying watercolors, oils, sculpture,
serigraphs, fine jewelry, photography and more. Event attendees can also
enjoy a variety of cuisines in the festival food area, listen to live
entertainment and visit our dedicated children's area with interactive
booths, hands-on games and activities. Proceeds from La Jolla Festival of
the Arts benefit over 30 programs for San Diegans with disabilities. The
Torrey Pines Kiwanis Foundation has donated nearly $1 million in funds from
the annual Festival to programs such as The Adaptive Snow Ski Program,
Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp, Wheelchair Tennis, Quadriplegic Rugby, Helen
Woodward Therapeutic Riding Program, Canine Companions, and Sharp Hospital
